Guest Presenter, March 7, 2017 Will Be Kyle Rafferty
About the Presenter:
Kyle Rafferty grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, just outside Philadelphia. While pursuing degrees in Studio Art and Art Education he had the opportunity to learn from a faculty of accomplished realist painters, and his interest grew into what would become a lifelong passion. Upon graduation, Kyle began teaching high school art classes in New Hope, Pennsylvania – a town rich in the tradition of representational art. During evening open studio sessions he continued to draw and paint the figure from direct observation. An avid hiker and backpacker, Kyle felt the strong pull of the landscape and decided to head west for adventure and artistic discovery.
Settling in Phoenix, Kyle started a small decorative finishing and mural painting business called Artefino Surface Design. He would spend weekends hiking, biking and paddling through incredible regions of Arizona, California and southern Utah. Inspired by the landscape of the west, Kyle felt naturally drawn to plein air painting and was eager to get some gear and give it a try. That was 2011, and he’s been painting outside regularly ever since.
In 2012 Kyle discovered the Scottsdale Artist School and enrolled in what would be the first of many workshops and weekly classes with master artists. He began entering local plein air shows and competitions, regularly winning awards for his efforts.
Kyle maintains a regular schedule of drawing and painting from direct observation. He currently acts as Vice President of the Arizona Plein Air Painters Association, and enters painting events and gallery shows nationally
