My serious artistic career began in 2012, when I retired from Arizona State University, where I directed the School of Justice Studies. Before then, my art had been mostly confined to drawing and photography. My photographs have appeared in two books. Since retiring, I have focused on painting, mostly oils, but some pastels and watercolors. I specialize in portraits and landscapes. I particularly enjoy painting animals, especially raptors and other birds. I also love plein air painting. I was featured in the Spring 2019 edition of Emeritus Voices: The Art of Doris Marie Provine. That same year, I obtained juried membership status within the Arizona Art Alliance for oil and watercolor. In 2021 one of my watercolors was selected by the Arizona Citizens for the Arts to be awarded to a recipient at the Arizona Governor’s Arts Awards March gala. I am currently president of the Tempe Artists Guild.
