The first inhabitants of Arizona lived thousands of years before the Europeans touch ground in the Arizona Territory. Very cleverly they built their dwellings in the recess of the mountains. They were protected by the elements and could see their enemies coming in time to collect their tribe to the safety of the cliff. Why they left, we can only ponder, was it drought, scarcity of animals to hunt or captured by a neighboring tribe? Amazingly these structures stand today and are protected by our State and National Parks.
