Our Guest Presenter, October 4, 2016 will be Donna Colleran.
Donna is a professional artist currently living in Scottsdale Arizona and has been passionately drawing faces for as long as she can remember. Throughout her young life she was always able to supplement funds drawing portraits for neighbors or acquaintances. Attending college during an era dominated by the world of Abstract art, she was often discouraged and settled on a career in commercial art. Beginning with a position as Staff Illustrator in an Advertising Agency in her hometown of Williamsburg VA. This career move lead to continued rolls in the advertising arena, including Graphic Designer, Art Director and Publication Designer.
As a Publication Designer in Washington D.C., she was given the authority to hire illustrators on a freelance basis for a national association magazine. This opportunity gave way to an exciting concept: Making art for a living. Compiling a portfolio and hitting the streets of DC, she embarked on a successful 12-year career, with regular commissions from such notables as the Washington Post, Washington Journalism Review, Regardies Magazine, Bell Atlantic, Washingtonian Magazine, The National Department of Education and various area trade magazines and national associations.
Eventually moving to Atlanta Ga to raise her two children and ever evolving, she began to study with local fine artists Nancy Honea, Jim Schell and Marc Chatov. When time away from her family permitted, she made trips to study further with nationally renowned artists such as Nelson Shanks, Everett Kinstler, Michael Shane Neal and Daniel Greene. Donna has studied on a workshop basis at the Art Students League of New York, Studio Incamminati, Grand Central Academy, The National Academy of Art and currently Scottsdale Artists School where she also instructs portrait painting and drawing.
Donna’s intense studies have whetted her appetite for deeper knowledge, and she believes it is extremely important to continue to develop through learning from both contemporaries as well as the old masters. She is inspired by and avidly studies the works of Cecilia Beaux, Anders Zorn, Sorolla, John Singer Sargeant, de Lazlo and Mary Cassette to name just a few.
Donna has been an award winning Juried member of the Portrait Society of Atlanta since 2003. She has also shown her work with the Atlanta Fine Arts League, Scottsdale Artists School, Legacy Gallery and Principal Gallery. Her portraits and paintings are privately owned across the country.
